Rockets trade center Andersen to Raptors

Thu, 29 Jul 2010

Update: The Houston Rockets have traded center David Andersen to Toronto for cash and a future second-round draft pick. The 6-foot-11 Australian averaged 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in 63 games last season, his first in the NBA.

Fantasy Impact: Andersen helped fill the void for Houston while Yao Ming sat out last season with a foot injury. Yao is expected to return healthy this season, and the Rockets signed free agent center Brad Miller to back him up.

House signs with Miami

Thu, 29 Jul 2010

Update: Eddie House's agent says the veteran guard has agreed to terms on a $2.8 million, two-year contract with the Miami Heat. Agent Mark Bartelstein said Thursday that the second year is a player option.

Fantasy Impact: His career average is 7.6 points, and he's a 39 percent shooter from 3-point range, with a reputation for making clutch baskets. Solid reserve player for Miami.

Ex Phenom signs with Japan

Thu, 29 Jul 2010

Update: Former high school star Jeremy Tyler has signed with the Tokyo Apache of Japan's professional basketball league. The team announced the signing Thursday on its official website. The 19-year-old Tyler will play for former NBA coach Bob Hill, who was hired by the team last month.

Fantasy Impact: This guy was once thought to be a potential #1 lottery pick. He bombed in Israel last year averaging 2 ppg during his 10 game stint. Maybe he will have better success in Japan before entering the 2011 draft.

Howard stays with Wizards

Thu, 29 Jul 2010

Update: A person familiar with the deal says Josh Howard has agreed to a one-year contract to return to the Washington Wizards. The person told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Howard is set to come back after playing only four games with the team last season.

Fantasy Impact: If he comes back healthy he will be a huge boost to a team that now has John Wall and Kirk Hinrich. Throw Gilbert Arenas in and this is a talented group. If they can stick together they may be contend for a playoff spot.

Cory Magette adds offense

Wed, 28 Jul 2010

Update: According to Neil Payne of Basketball-Reference: He had the highest offensive rating of any high-usage player (23 percent of possessions or more) in the league against top-10 defenses last season.

Fantasy Impact: He doesnt play much defense but he gets to the free throw line a lot. He will also create a lot of room for Bogut and a lot of shots for Brandon Jennings. Great add by Milwaukee.

Top 5 Free Agents left

Wed, 28 Jul 2010

Update: With most of the top players off the board, here's a look at the 5 best available.

Fantasy Impact: Shaq: Possible destinations - Mavs, Spurs, Cavs, Hawks. He wants to go to Dallas, Atlanta has shown the most interest. Josh Howard: Bulls, Celtics, Wizards, Cavs. Tracy McGrady: Bulls, Heat, Clippers. Not going to Chicago unless he comes off the bench. Shannon Brown - expect him to resign with LA. Earl Watson: Rumored to be going to either Toronto or Miami.

Team USA cuts

Wed, 28 Jul 2010

Update: Team USA trimmed its roster to 15 on Wednesday by cutting Tyreke Evans, Gerald Wallace, O.J. Mayo and JaVale McGee.

Fantasy Impact: As expected, although McGee was a sleeper to make the team. 3 more players will be cut before its finalized.

This season may be Yao's last

Tue, 27 Jul 2010

Update: Houston Rockets center Yao Ming is considering quitting basketball after next season if he doesn't fully recover from his lingering foot injury.
In comments to Chinese state media Monday, Yao sounded far from optimistic about his future and also made a rare criticism of China's national basketball program. "If the foot injury does not heal next season, I might choose to call it quits," he said.

Fantasy Impact: He has battled injuries his whole career, so you cannot blame him. All we can do is wonder how good he would have been if he was healthy. Most of his career he was an All Star Center.

Bulls not interested in TMac

Tue, 27 Jul 2010

Update: The Bulls have not made a decision, but a source tells ESPN.com that signing McGrady was downgraded to "unlikely" after the workout and interview. The Bulls want to use him as a backup, but they're not convinced he can accept that role.

Fantasy Impact: McGrady thinks he can start and still has more in him then what we saw in NY. If he could accept a 6th man role, the Bulls would sign him and he would be much happier then starting somewhere else like with the LA Clippers.

Johnny Flynn out 3-4 months

Tue, 27 Jul 2010

Update: Jonny Flynn did not play during the summer league because of a hip injury, and it's bad enough that he'll undergo surgery next week to fix the problem, reports Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports. According to Spears, Flynn will be out three to four months.

Fantasy Impact: Good thing they signed Ridnour earlier this year. Expect him to get some good minutes at the beginning of the season.

Luke Harangody to make Celtics roster

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Update: "After torching the summer league, second-round pick Luke Harangody will likely end up on the roster," reported Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe. "Ainge constantly compared the Notre Dame product to some of the other second-round diamonds he mined over the years -- Davis, Leon Powe, and Ryan Gomes. In Orlando, Harangody showed not just an ability to score, but a surprising ability to shoot from the outside."

Fantasy Impact: At 6-8, Harangody may have trouble matching up and defending some of the bigger, taller opponents he could face down on the block if he makes the team.

Team USA bubble

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Update: 5 players on the bubble to be cut by Team USA: Jeff Green, Danny Granger, Javale McGee, Brook Lopez, Andre Igoudala

Fantasy Impact: McGee would be tough to cut because he is a true Center. Igoudala and Granger seem to be going head to head. Green is probably the odd man out at PF and Kevin Love has out played him so far.

Top 5 NBA rookies this summer

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Update: After two-plus weeks of games in Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas, here are the top-performing rookies of the summer.

Fantasy Impact: 1. John Wall, Wizards
Summer-league stats: 23.5 ppg, 7.8 apg, 4 rpg

2. Damion James, Nets
Summer-league stats: 18.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1 apg

3. DeMarcus Cousins, Kings
Summer-league stats: 14.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.2 bpg

4. Luke Harangody, Celtics
Summer-league stats: 16.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.6 apg

5. Derrick Caracter, Lakers
Summer-league stats: 15.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 1.4 bpg

Tim Thomas wants to resume NBA career

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Update: Thomas' agent, Bob Myers, told ESPNDallas.com that he and the club are working toward a new deal that would resume the 33-year-old's career in Dallas.

Fantasy Impact: After missing the start of the 2009-10 season while recovering from knee surgery, Thomas appeared in just 18 games before leaving the team, averaging 7.5 points in 15.8 minutes.

Bulls prepared to add McGrady

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Update: The Bulls are prepared to sign Tracy McGrady if he proves to be sufficiently healthy in a workout Monday and can convince the team he is willing to accept a bench role, one source familiar with Chicago's thinking said Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: The seven-time All-Star was limited to 30 games last season in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his left knee. He averaged 9.4 points, 3.9 assists and 26.1 minutes in 24 starts for the Knicks, who acquired the two-time scoring champion from Houston in a three-way deal in February.

Team USA PG: Who's out?

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

Update: Competition at point will be fierce to make the 12 man USA squad. It is now between Rajon Rondo, Chauncey Billups, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, and Tyreke Evans.

Fantasy Impact: Billups is a lock to make the team and Rose most likely is also. That leaves 1 spot between Westbrook, Rondo, and Evans. My pick is Westbrook who has looked very good so far in the first two days and averaged 16 and 8 last year for the Thunder.

Hawks to sign Josh Powell

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

Update: Josh Powell spent the last two years with the Lakers, but will play for the Hawks this upcoming season. Hawks head coach Larry Drew told the Los Angeles Times, "that it is about a done deal."

Fantasy Impact: Powell will most likely be backing up Horford at PF and Center. Do not expect too much of an impact from him.

Arroyo to re-sign with Miami

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

Update: The Heat are close to rounding out the roster after it was announced Wednesday that point guard Carlos Arroyo will re-sign with the team.

Fantasy Impact: Expect Arroyo to back up PG Mario Chalmers. This now gives Miami 13 players under contract for next year.

Chris Paul wants to leave NO

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

Update: A source close to Chris Paul tells Ken Berger of CBSSports.com that the point guard wants to be traded before the beginning of next season. "He wants out," said the source. "He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron James' model of teaming up with other great players."

Fantasy Impact: He is rumored to want to be in LA, NY, or Orlando. Right now Orlando and LA both have solid point guards in Nelson and Fisher. NY would be the perfect scenario, and if he can lure Melo there with him watch out. This is all speculation now but could come to fruition soon.

Rose in Chicago for good

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

Update: Derrick Rose has no desire to ever leave Illinois and his hometown Chicago Bulls. "I'm never leaving," Rose told Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com Wednesday. "Never."

Fantasy Impact: Rose also likes the team's new additions and doesn't see the need to recruit any players to the Bulls. "No, no, no. We're good right now," said Rose. "Forget that. We're straight right now with the team that we have. Probably later on, 10 or something years from now down the line, but right now we're fine the way we are right now." Remember the whole Beasley vs Rose debate in the draft a few years ago? Its safe to say the Bulls made the right decision.

Melo expected to resign

Wed, 21 Jul 2010

Update: People close to the Nuggets expect Carmelo Anthony to sign three-year, $65 million contract extension and Chauncey Billups shares that opinion, too. "I'm hoping he does. I know Melo loves Denver, it's pretty much home and I think that he will (sign the extension)," Billups told The Denver Post Tuesday. "But I've seen stranger things. ... All I can do is be hopeful."

Fantasy Impact: The Knicks still hope he will opt out and sign with them next year. Rumors are that Amare, Chris Paul, and Melo want to form their own big 3, but don't count on it happening.

Bynum surgery pushed back

Wed, 21 Jul 2010

Update: Andrew Bynum was scheduled to have surgery on July 18 to repair the meniscus tear in his right knee, but that has been pushed back to July 28, reports ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Fantasy Impact: He should be ready for training camp anyway, so draft him with confidence.

Lin to sign with Golden St.

Wed, 21 Jul 2010

Update: Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Warriors, by offering to guarantee more than half of Lin's potential first-year salary of nearly $500,000, have reached an agreement in principle with the point guard from Harvard.

Fantasy Impact: The Warriors have a need for a guard depth behind stars Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry after restricted free agent C.J. Watson signed an offer sheet Monday with the Chicago Bulls that resulted in Watson joining the Bulls via sign-and-trade. Lin was a sensation in summer league but do not expect too much out of the Harvard grad.

Jamison to the bench

Mon, 19 Jul 2010

Update: New Cavs coach Byron Scott wants to kick up the tempo in Cleveland. And because of this, J.J. Hickson -- the athletic 21-year-old who showed great promise during this past regular season -- will start at power forward.

Fantasy Impact: Jamison used to be one of the premier power forwards in the game and now the 34 year old is finding himself in a reserve role. Maybe he can be the 6th man of the year again like he was in Dallas a few years back.

PG options for Miami

Mon, 19 Jul 2010

Update: FanHouse reported on Sunday night that John Lucas said his son, John Lucas III, is in consideration for the third PG spot in Miami. Carlos Arroyo signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract on Oct. 11, 2009 with the Heat. And it looks like he could return again next season.

Fantasy Impact: Dwyane Wade and LeBron James can also handle ball-handling duties if need be. If Arroyo is added, that would give the team a depth chart of Mario Chalmers and him at the point guard. It would be cool to see Lebron run the point although may not be the best thing for Miami. Jason Williams is also another option for them at PG.
